    The FinOps team are a group of Cloud and Finance specialists who work with the business to inform, optimise, and operate cloud finance. As the company's use of public cloud has grown so has the FinOps team to match business requirements to cost optimise, manage cloud consumption, and engineer change. An engineering lead is sought to lead a small team to strategize, roadmap and drive technical change while supporting the requirements of the central FinOps team, business application teams and the core engineering function.

    The successful candidate would ideally have a proven background in technical engineering; be able to simplify complex technical change into easy to understand presentations for management; be able to support the application teams at every stage of the application lifecycle to drive improvements with cost / performance; support Finance & Procurement teams to simplify complex billing data received; and to assist Architecture & Design teams where sharing cloud best practice and industrial experience aids long-term decision making.

    The team leader will need to have experience managing at least one of the most common public cloud providers (AWS / Azure/ GCP); be able to translate technical information into business language; have experience managing a team of high performing staff and be able to present to all layers of management (i.e. solution designs for sponsorship).

    Role Purpose

    The Cloud FinOps Engineering Team leader is responsible for managing a team of high performing individuals to work with the business to enable efficient cloud use throughout the application lifecycle. The successful candidate will have extensive AWS / Azure / GCP experience; be familiar with the FinOps foundation's framework & know what is required to achieve "run" maturity; be able to confidently talk with application teams about their designs, encouraging good use of cloud agility and unit economics; be able to highlight improvements to cost / performance ratios through virtual machine management & reserved instance purchase and will manage the pipelines of work to ensure that financial data presented through the companies tools are kept to a high quality.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Manage the workload of the team to ensure work is evenly distributed and any single points of failure in knowledge are identified and addressed.
    • Roadmap technical change to show what changes are planned for each capability over the next 2+ years.
    • Guide and teach junior members of the team to understand and break down complex requests using diagramming tools and team breakout sessions.
    • Manage Savings plans and Reserved instances to the commitment targets agreed.
    • Look for opportunities to improve data accuracy by replacing "click-ops" using code wherever possible.
    • Work with the platform teams to ensure the Cost Management toolsets and billing consoles are configured correctly using API wherever possible.
    • Keep up to date with industry trends so that business stakeholders can be advised how to use the latest services to improve cost / performance ratios.
    • Review governance framework on a regular basis to ensure standards set are upheld (e.g. tagging enforcement) and new guidelines implemented.

    Minimum Requirements
    • Good English language verbal and written communication skills essential.
    • Ideally, the successful candidate would hold the Certification in AWS / Azure / GCP

    or

    • Hold a degree in Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
    • Have at least 2+ years industry experience in a large-scale organisation.
    • Familiarity with the FinOps Foundation framework and an understanding of what it means to reach "run" maturity.
    • Experience using a public cloud cost management tool.
    • Understand common financial terms, key drivers, and concepts that Technology, Finance, Procurement, Accounts Payable and Receivable teams use day-to-day is essential.
    • Experience in line management and the day-to-day duties required to support a team.
