    Requirements

    Informatics / Telecom degree with at least 3 years experience in an operational IT or Telecom environment in a large company.
    Proven Experience in network operations
    Main skills
    - Advanced knowledge of at least one of the following : UNIX, LINUX/AIX, Solaris, Red Hat;
    Extended IT skills (advanced knowledge):
    - Web based applications: Apache, Java, messaging, DNS, FTP,)
    - Languages: mandatory bash/ KSH, Python/ Perl, additional HTML, Java , XML
    - Knowledge of monitoring tools: HPOpenView, Patrol
    - Virtualization technologies (VmWare, PowerVM)
    Complementary skills
    - Monitoring tools (Cacti, Fticheck, Nagios)
    - Work in project mode

    Responsibilities

    Mission/purpose

    System Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operating systems for virtual and physical systems for shared services platforms. Ensures preparation and consolidation during the service launch phase to match QoS standards for systems.
    Provide technical support to L1 and L2 teams and expertise on system administration for shared platforms.
    Provides improvement plans and enhanced procedures to meet performance objectives for system administration.
    System Engineers will also often perform light programming (usually scripting, which involves writing programs to automate tasks)


    Job responsibilities
    Operations and Support

    Engineering of SE-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
    Install and configure OS systems in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
    Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures..
    Improve and maintain system standards.
    Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
    Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, log rotation etc.
    Perform regular security monitoring according to internal security policies in place to identify any possible intrusions.
    Checking daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created.
    Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
    Management of users (add/update/delete/audit) and passwords for the systems.
    Provide L3 and other support per request from FT customers. Real time investigate and troubleshoot issues in accordance with customer impact.
    Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted customers.
    Provides training for internal customers.

    Maintenance and Improving
    Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
    Upgrade and configure system software when needed.
    Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
    Perform ongoing performance tuning, recommend hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Recommends CPU, memory, and disk partitions modifications and configure if required.
    Ensure that the KPI values are maintained according to the existing SLA
    Real time analysis and monitoring of OS systems , trigger and implement corrective actions.

    Accountable for the introduction of new services/servers
    Provide expertise for system proving and validation phases
    Validates system specifications and functionalities for new systems
    Responsible for acceptance of new systems in production platform
    Issue new specifications for tools and systems evolutions
