Experience & Knowledge

The post-holder must have:
•Strong experience of implementing, supporting and troubleshooting complex enterprise-level Linux based systems in a fast paced commercial environment, with the ability to resolve issues or escalate in a concise manner
•Strong experience of providing 2nd-3rd line operational support in a 24x7 Environment (on call availability and installation of patches/upgrades during scheduled maintenance windows)
•Strong Knowledge &/or experience of using Amazon Web Services
•Experience in configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining a range of common server applications, including Apache, Samba, Tomcat, JBoss, MySQL, Postgress, Cassandra DB, Mongo DB, queuing system (RabbitMQ), Varnish, Nginx, Nagios
•Experience related to solution integration
•Administering packaging systems/configuration/automated test (like Puppet/Jenkins)
•Understanding of IP networking and common protocols such as FTP, HTTP and SSH, and understanding of network security practices including the use of VPNs, ACLs and firewalls
•Rigorous and disciplined approach to documentation, and knowledge transfer.


Additional desirable skills for post-holder:

•Ability to process and present complex system information in a clear and concise fashion for escalation to next level for prompt issue resolution.
•Experience with Microsoft Servers (AD, GPO) is considered a plus
•Knowledge &/or experience of using Microsoft Azure, OpenStack, VMware is considered a plus
•Understanding of Java web applications for troubleshooting purposes
•Knowledge of standard Linux tools & scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python) is considered a plus

We are looking for an experienced engineer to have supported and fixed all BUSINESS AS USUAL related issues in complex enterprise systems.

This would require a very good level of understanding and experience of Unix/Linux/Solaris servers, and knowledge of networking & storage.


You should understand how we use certain technologies, follow the guidelines & be able to resolve issues quickly or collate precise information for escalation to next level of support. You should take ownership of issues from detection up to resolution and during this process always inform the stakeholders.

The 2nd line team should perform all BUSINESS AS USUAL activities such as:
•system patching, upgrades, back-ups
•system expansion such as additional servers, more storage, etc
•identification of improvements
•Daily support/project activities
