    Requirements

    Core competences:

    • Sound knowledge of the testing life-cycle. Ability to build a test team and perform end to end testing through various testing methods, approaches and tools;
    • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance and resolve conflicts of interest;
    • Experience in delivering successful projects through virtual cross-functional teams as well as 3rd party organizations;
    • Ability to work across multi-functional and cultural boundaries to deliver services and change;
    • Ability to be flexible and to proactively manage change;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A good listener who can quickly extract the critical information from a mass of detail;
    • Experience of writing Test Strategies for large programmes and successfully managed the testing for those programmes.

    Technical/Professional Knowledge:

    Professional knowledge:

    • Enterprise IP VPN, fixed connectivity, IP Interconnect and Trunking, and Ethernet services;
    • Technical knowledge of IP & MPLS networking, LAN/WAN solution, data networking, voice networking, switching and routing technologies, cloud, hosting;
    • Mobile Broadband, mobile WiFi products;
    • Telecoms based network security, IP Backbone (MPLS/IP) network security
    • Testing tools including tools for Test Automation;
    • System Integration;
    • Developing Products and software development processes and practices;
    • Partner and Technical Project Management.

    Technical Knowledge:

    • Communications Stack, Interfaces & Protocols: IPv4, IPv6, AT Commands, NDIS, MBIM;
    • Transport: transmission, IP, MPLS;
    • Core Networks: SIP, RTP;
    • Terminals: Smartphones, IP phones, PC clients, fixed CPE;
    • Unified Communications Products and Services: IP PBX, SIP Trunk, Lync;
    • Billing/Mediation, CRM and / or Online Media web / WAP portals in a Telco environment;

    Must have technical/professional qualifications:

    • Fluency in English;
    • University degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical / electronic / telecommunications engineering;
    • Hold the ISTQB Test Practitioner certificate or equivalent test certification or demonstrate experience and achievements to this standard;
    • ITIL Foundation v3 (or equivalent) or CCNA is an advantage;
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on large complex projects in the IT/Telecommunications (Fixed or Mobile) industry and least 5 years hands on experience of end-to-end testing in a multi-application/multi-network/platform/vendor environment;
    • IT/Telecommunications technology architecture design, and product design;
    • System Integration;
    • Strong QA and test industry knowledge of standards and methodologies.

    Responsibilities

    Role purpose:

    To manage and deliver testing services against Connectivity, Security, Carrier and VGE BAU and Spring product and service roadmaps within agreed timescales, budget and quality. The Test Designer will define the test approach and derive estimates to within specified tolerances for Connectivity & Security programmes and projects they are assigned too. They will lead test campaigns through internal and external test organizations, and drive testing activities proactively, managing risk and assuring the quality of the delivery with the aim of exceeding stakeholder expectations ad delivering compelling customer experience.

    Typical outputs:

    • Test Assurance delivery plans and schedules aligned with agreed time, cost and quality parameters;
    • Technical options and high level and detailed designs costs for chosen test approach options, estimates and quotes;
    • Work Package definitions and/or SLA’s with Suppliers (internal or external);
    • Test Strategies, plans and reports, test cases, test scripts, and quality requirements for certification of products prior to launch;
    • Post-delivery analysis and lessons learnt;
    • Defect management and bug tracking;
    • Test documentation ownership and maintenance;
    • Manage and govern test signoff and approval at project gates as specified in the test strategies;
    • Strategic roadmap and evolution plans for the test technology area that contribute to the C&S Practice strategic plans;
    • Cost of test ownership analysis and roadmap (hardware, software, licence and support cost) for a capability or collection of related capabilities;

    Responsibilities:

    • Specification of fit for purpose Domain and E2E Test Strategies, test estimates to within defined tolerances, and test schedules;
    • Leading E2E testing services and test assurance through Vodafone internal teams and 3rd party test organizations across various locations and time zones;
    • Delivery of and adherence to all aspects of agreed Test strategies and test plans, and ensure testing adheres to the C&S Quality Assurance standards and test methodologies;
    • Drive automation and use of performance test tools into projects to improve speed of delivery, quality of product and reduce costs;
    • Understanding and managing Test and Test Environment (TE) dependencies, milestones, and availability;
    • Deliver test KPI and progress reports and provide quality trend visibility over life time of the programme through HPQC;
    • Working with the programme/project manager to provide options and associated costs for appropriate test approaches;
    • Participates in test case execution, bug tracking, and issue resolution during development life cycle to ensure products meet all requirements of the functional specification prior to launch;
    • Provide (or update) a comprehensive handover pack to include test tips, regression test packs, test harnesses, details of test tools and test cases to enable our Customers (including Vodafone Local Markets and Partner Markets) to test a customer rollout on the product reusing as much Intellectual capital as possible.
    • Leads or supports activities to understand and improve poor test and subsequent production performance of products and /or capabilities that have been tested through the team. Manage performance of test organizations;
    • Leads or supports definition of a roadmap for the specific test capabilities, consistent with C&S product and service roadmaps;
    • Identifies, builds, manages and measures effective relationships with internal and, where appropriate external customers to manage their needs.
