    Role description

    Booking Holdings Romania is looking for a Counsel, Legal to support the Global Booking Holdings Legal team. The role is based in our Center of Excellence (COE) in Bucharest, Romania, which is a key enabler of Booking Holdings' global talent strategy for several technology functions such as Cybersecurity, Fraud monitoring/analytics, IT, Legal, Finance, Procurement etc. across our many Brand subsidiaries.

    The Counsel will provide legal support to Booking Holdings' Global Legal team. This role will focus on regulatory concerns, and provide support across various areas, including: intellectual property, consumer law, artificial intelligence, employment, sustainability, accessibility, litigation and eDiscovery issues. The role will track regulatory changes and developments and assist in enhancing the Company's global Legal Standards program.

    Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • Manage a periodic review of key policies, procedures, and controls (including those related to artificial intelligence, IP, sustainability, consumer law, employment, etc) to ensure they are robust, consistent with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and industry best practices, and easy to access, read, and understand
    • Work with key internal stakeholders and outside counsel to monitor the regulatory and enforcement landscapes, identify applicable regulatory requirements, and advise management and stakeholders of the corresponding impact on the company's operational activities
    • Be primarily responsible for the Company's Legal Standards program, which includes an annual self assessment of the Company's major brands against the Standards and development of new Standards in key areas
    • Build out the litigation preparedness program for the cross-brand family of companies, including by developing and implementing playbooks and templates related to litigation processes and guidelines
    • Manage the issuance, scope and release of legal holds for the cross-brand family of companies
    • Take a leading role in relation to document retention and production, providing strategic input and support
    • Devise training in relation to key litigation concepts, including legal professional/ attorney-client privilege
    • Build strong and effective relationships with other departments across BHI and our brands to ensure the effective implementation of our policies, procedures, and standards across the enterprise
    • The candidate must possess:
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are highly appreciated but not essential
      • A passion for getting things done promptly without compromising attention to detail
      • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
      • Ability to work independently, while still being a team player who shares knowledge and collaborates well with others
      • Ability to work cross functionally and devise creative solutions to complex issues

    Role Qualifications and Requirements

    • Specialized Diploma and Bachelor degree
    • 5-8 Years of relevant Job Knowledge
    • At least five years of experience as a qualified lawyer, with substantial litigation and regulatory experience, and an interest in eDiscovery
    • Experience providing legal services in technology, travel or consumer goods spaces is a plus
    • Experience working abroad or for a company headquartered abroad is a plus
    • Fluency in English - Ability to work and communicate directly in English
    • Strong writing and editing skills and solid organizational skills
    • Ability to work well with colleagues around the world and manage with ease both time-sensitive and long-term projects
    • Superior problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, ability to influence, communications, consulting, and team/interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others from any functional area, background, or location to influence thinking, and gain acceptance
    • Ability to comfortably work with both technical and non-technical audiences and to work with and through all levels in an organization
    • International experience: Self-awareness of communication style and cultural differences
    • Consultative style: Ability to formulate and articulate a perspective and present it in a manner that generates understanding and alignment
    • Self-motivated and capable of operating independently with limited oversight
