Java Development Engineer for  AT ETCS L1 Team

Job Purpose:

You will be a new member of our Train Control ETCS L1 Development team.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work with experts from Austria (Vienna) in a very dynamic and complex environment and also will be responsible for developing the upcoming projects in the railway ETCS L1 area like “LEU Management & Diagnostic System”

Job summary

Development of complex and safety-critical application software for the railway field, including:

• Internalize the existing architectural structure of software, understand its different modules and functions;

• Create / Enhance the software by defining new architectural solutions on subsystem levels;

• Design, Implementation/Coding;

• Unit/Module testing;

• Maintain existing product features, resolve issues and fix bugs;

• Documentation of Design and Testing according to company guidelines and processes;

• Collaboration in an agile team;

• Regular progress reporting to stakeholders;

• Cooperation with other Thales developers in Austria and Romania (project language English).

Professional competencies
Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Electronics, Computer Science, Electronics, Informatics Mathematics, Physics, or similar.

Requested technical competencies:

• At least 5 years of professional experience in Java development;

• Experience in web-oriented architecture;

• Experience in agile methodology (Scrum, Kanban);

• Experience with the full lifecycle of a software development project: design and documentation, development, unit testing, refactoring, deployment and maintenance;

• Accurate and structured working method according to process definitions;

• Experience with Eclipse, GIT, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Openstack, docker.

Would be a plus:

• Experience in railway operations and signaling is an advantage

• Knowledge of JIRA, Doors,

Personal competencies

• Flexibility and availability to travel in Vienna;

• Solution oriented, team-working;

• Good communication, goal-oriented team-worker and time management skills.

Languages:

• Fluency in English;

• German is a plus.
