I’m a bit of a maverick, I say ‘’yes’’ to projects at stages when the tasks and scope of the project are still (partly) unknown.
My colleagues are very generous with their knowledge, they’re always willing to share and I appreciate that.

How do you kick back and balance things out?
I usually have something in mind for the end of the workday, be it cleaning, groceries, gaming, or some social activity. A chill night in is also something I look forward to from time to time.
I’m going to be honest – why stop know? – reaching a better work-life balance is still on my list. But I have people around me who embody that, I try to learn from them, and I also get a heads up if I overdo it, which is great. It keeps me in check.

Workwise, is there something you feel particularly proud of?
The first thing that comes to mind isn’t related to my job description, but it is an opportunity I could access through ING Hubs. I volunteer in PepinTEEN, a programme we develop with Școala de Valori. I get to teach high schoolers basic web technologies, and there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing their faces light up when they get something they first struggled to grasp.

Let’s talk people and machines: what’s a notable achievement for you job wise and a plus community wise?
A rewarding moment I recall well is when I created a script that reduced the time needed for a specific task from one day (manual work) to less than two minutes (automated).
In terms of people, the connections I’ve built here are big drivers for me. I like the feeling of being helpful to others and that of amplifying the good vibes around the office.
What I like most about our community is that anyone who needs help will find it.

How would you describe your team dynamics?

Your job title makes it sound like you should be working in a lab. How do you explain it to outsiders?
Most people think of me as the universal '’IT guy’', a fixer or a troubleshooter, or picture me in an underground lab designing autonomous robots.
The reality is that I work with data and algorithms to create solutions that help make informed decisions. No evil robots in sight... yet!

To be able to contribute daily to the development of outstanding payment capabilities is a success in and of itself. The volumes, the complexity, the reliability of execution, these are monumental.
Also, to lead product development, to take an idea and run with it until it turns into tangible production product capabilities, that are both compliant and loved by our customers, is very rewarding.

Every job comes with demands, and yours sounds like it has the potential to bring some pressure. How do you handle it?
I try to be consistent with time management. Sticking to priorities, staying on top of things, and keeping it all contained to working hours takes some discipline.
It’s easy to get absorbed in tasks, so the way I go about it is to stay focused and bring my A game to work. Afterwards I can truly disconnect and be present with family and friends. I am a simple man and take my energy from moments rather that material accomplishments.

How do you stay active outside of work?
As the captain of our running community, I also stay active with the people at work. We go for weekly runs, and sometimes join running events as a community. It’s nice to see the branded t-shirts at a race and share this hobby with the people I usually share tasks with.
