Visteon launches industry-first 3D cluster in new PEUGEOT 208

Visteon Corporation, the world’s leading supplier of automotive digital instrument clusters, has introduced the industry’s first fully digital cluster displaying holographic objects on the all-new PEUGEOT 208.

Part of PEUGEOT’s unique 3D i-Cockpit®, the digital cluster represents the first real 3D in-car solution in automotive production.

Visteon’s technology center in Timisoara, Romania is leveraging the technical expertise of the company’s global talent force to contribute significantly in the form of continuous integration and graphical software development – augmenting the work on architecture and taking into account the critical program management and product development delivered by Visteon specialists in France, Bulgaria, India and China.

Partnering with Groupe PSA in Feb. 2019 to develop a pioneering “3D Blade” concept, Visteon’s digital cluster displays advanced reflections to create the impressions of 3D graphics.

Since March 2020, the Timisoara team has also been fully responsible for software development on the analog variant of the cluster.

Flaviu Anderco, software engineering manager in Timisoara, said: “Groupe PSA is an important customer for us, and we are glad to be involved with this state-of-the-art technology by helping to provide a complex software solution from our Timisoara facility. We have a very motivated team here which has taken this responsibility in a short timeframe and produced excellent results and performance. The program has offered us the opportunity to increase our local expertise in cluster algorithm development, while seizing the opportunity to upskill in graphical interfacing. We are glad to see our products reaching the market and being very well received by customer and end-consumer alike.”

The PEUGEOT 208 cluster’s projection offers styling teams the flexibility to create depth with rotating menus and shadow effects and, importantly, brings a distribution of key information to the driver – including priority information such as speed and alerts.

The display also allows animations to pass dynamically from the foreground to the background in ADAS modes or as 3D animations in a number of configurable colors and skins.

The PEUGEOT 208 3D cluster is the first of several variants in the Groupe PSA brand line up to be launched over the coming years in a number of sizes and the 3D technology is available on high-end versions of the new PEUGEOT 208, while the entry-level model is fitted with an analog cluster - also provided by Visteon.
