About EUMETSAT Trusted in Space. Essential on Earth.
Since 1986, EUMETSAT, Europes meteorological satellite agency, has monitored weather and climate from space. From its headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany, it operates fleets of satellites observing the Earth system and delivers real-time, 247 data and imagery to its 30 member states to help protect communities and support critical sectors of their economies.
As it marks its 40th anniversary in 2026, EUMETSAT looks back on four decades of achievements in Earth observation for weather andclimate.Today, it plays a central role in the international meteorological satellite system, contributing observations that support forecasting and climate monitoring in its member states and beyond. Four Meteosat satellites in geostationary orbit deliver continuous observations of fast developing weather events over Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean. Two polar-orbiting Metop satellites provide data critical for forecasts up to 10 days ahead.
EUMETSAT also supports European policies aimed at strengthening Europes sovereignty. It operates and disseminates data under the Copernicus programme and leads the development and management of the data lake for the Destination Earth initiative.
EUMETSATs 30 member states are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trkiye and the United Kingdom.
