    Requirements

    We are seeking an experienced AML/KYC Compliance Officer to take a key operational role within our compliance team, working with the support of a junior colleague. The successful candidate will bring hands-on AML/KYC experience gained within a Romanian reporting entity and will be expected to perform customer due diligence in practice, assess client risks, maintain complete AML/KYC files and support compliance with the obligations applicable under Romanian AML legislation.

    The position offers the opportunity to play a central role in the day-to-day operation of the AML/KYC function, interact directly with senior stakeholders and help shape practical compliance processes within a professional services environment.

    You will work directly with client-facing and support teams to apply AML/KYC requirements at client acceptance and throughout the business relationship. The position requires someone who can assess files critically, identify missing or inconsistent information, request relevant supporting documents, record well-reasoned conclusions and escalate higher-risk cases appropriately.

    Qualifications and experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Law or Economics; specialized AML/KYC or compliance training is an advantage;

    At least 3 years of experience specifically in AML/KYC or compliance, preferably gained within a Romanian reporting entity, such as an audit, accounting, tax, legal or financial services organisation;

    Practical knowledge of Romanian AML/CTF requirements, including Law no. 129/2019, customer due diligence, identification of beneficial owners, risk classification, ongoing monitoring, record-keeping and the internal escalation of potential suspicious activity;

    Experience reviewing corporate documents, ownership and control structures, beneficial ownership information, source-of-funds documentation, sanctions screening and politically exposed person screening results for client acceptance and ongoing review;

    Ability to identify gaps or inconsistencies in AML/KYC files, request appropriate supporting documentation, record a clear rationale and escalate higher-risk matters;

    Fluency in Romanian and English, both written and spoken;

    Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;

    Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain document requests and compliance conclusions to colleagues and senior stakeholders;

    Ability to manage several reviews and follow-ups at the same time, maintain complete records and meet internal or statutory deadlines;

    Good judgement, professional skepticism and attention to detail when reviewing information that may be incomplete, inconsistent or commercially sensitive

    Responsibilities

    Key responsibilities:

    Perform and document AML/KYC reviews for new and existing clients, including identification and verification, beneficial ownership analysis, assessment of the purpose and intended nature of the business relationship, risk classification and enhanced due diligence where required;

    Review corporate and ownership documents, screening results and source-of-funds or source-of-wealth information; identify gaps, inconsistencies and risk indicators and follow up until the file supports a documented decision;

    Support the maintenance and practical application of the company’s AML/CTF policies, risk methodology, client acceptance procedures, registers and internal controls in line with Romanian legal and regulatory requirements;

    Monitor due dates for periodic reviews and changes affecting client risk; update KYC records and ensure that supporting documentation and approvals are complete and traceable;

    Advise engagement teams on AML/KYC requirements, review higher-risk cases and escalate indicators of potential suspicious activity or other material compliance concerns through the company’s internal reporting channels;

    Develop and deliver practical AML/CTF training and awareness sessions for client-facing and support teams, including updates on Romanian legal requirements, internal procedures and recurring issues identified during file reviews; contribute to compliance monitoring and the preparation of information required for internal reviews, and external inspections.
