High Voltage Primary Engineer

A Snapshot of Your Day

In this role, you will be responsible for designing high-voltage substations, including HVDC converter stations, in line with customer requirements and industry standards. You will take ownership of the primary design of key HV equipment and work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop efficient, reliable, and cost-effective layout solutions. Additionally, you will utilize specialized engineering design tools to support project execution, ensure technical compliance, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers while continuously developing your technical expertise and professional skills.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Develop physical layouts, drawings, and installation details for high-voltage substations (especially HVDC)
• Have or gain the ability to design, check and integrate primary layouts and component design with the aid of 2D/3D modelling software
• Perform technical calculations including electrical clearance distances, mechanical loading, and busbar sizing.
• Preparation of conclusive earthing & lightning protection designs
• Responsible for co-ordination with the client, Civil and other interfaces for delivering the layout design
• Prepare technical and requisition specifications, data sheets and inspection data sheets for HV equipment
• Ensure all designs comply with international standards (IEC, IEEE) and customer-specific requirements.
• Participate in cost reduction and design optimization during project execution
• Participate in design reviews and support the site construction and commissioning teams during the execution phase.
• Monitoring the engineering progress for your own deliverables, managing your interfaces, control your budgets and comply with the project time schedule
• Prepare technical specifications and bill of materials (BOM) for procurement of primary equipment.
• Evaluate vendor offers and clarify technical details to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
• Check and monitor the supplier documentation, manufacturing, and testing processes

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Design experience within the electrical transmission and distribution industry.
• Strong expertise in Electrical Engineering & Design, including high-voltage substation layout design, application of air clearance requirements, and the design of earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Experienced in performing electrical and mechanical calculations for HV conductors, defining support structure loads and installation constraints, and selecting primary equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Strong expertise in CAD & Engineering Software, with hands-on experience using 3D CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, and Primtech, combined with advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with project scheduling processes, including Gantt chart development and management.
• Strong knowledge of international engineering standards including DIN, EN, IEC, and IEEE, combined with experience in quality assurance of engineering documentation and the effective management of customer requirements to ensure compliance, accuracy, and successful project delivery.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in international teams, build productive relationships with stakeholders, take full ownership of responsibilities, and quickly adapt to new challenges while maintaining a results-oriented mindset.
