Short company description
At AECOM, we believe infrastructure creates opportunity for everyone – uplifting communities, improving access and sustaining our planet.
We’re committed to managing our business with the upmost responsibility and to always strive for better — be that reducing emissions, creating social value or diversifying our senior leadership and workforce.
We understand both the urgency of the challenges facing our society and our responsibility to act in an impactful and enduring way. We’re leading the change towards a more sustainable and equitable future, partnering with those who want to make a positive difference in the world.
We’re listening to clients and the communities we serve in order to improve lives and livelihoods, and to create sustainable legacies for generations to come.
Thinking without limits is what keeps us at the vanguard. Ideas have no borders, and this ethos is embedded in our culture. The full scope of our global expertise is available to anyone who needs it, wherever they are based.
We’re trusted advisors — planners, designers, engineers, consultants and program and construction managers — delivering professional services spanning cities, transportation, buildings, water, new energy, and the environment. Working throughout the project lifecycle, we’re one team driven by a common purpose to deliver a better world.
Our History
AECOM launched when a handful of employees from design and engineering companies shared a dream of creating an industry-leading firm dedicated to delivering a better world.
We became an independent company formed by the merger of five entities. While our official founding was in 1990, many of our predecessor firms had distinguished histories dating back more than 120 years.
Since then, more than 50 companies have joined us and, in 2007, we became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
- Solid experience in building services electrical engineering with a focus on LV systems design, including demonstrated ability to independently deliver primary design elements.
- Working knowledge of LV design standards.
- Proficiency in LV calculations: cable sizing, voltage drop, fault level, and protection discrimination.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for LV electrical documentation and modelling.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with general supervision, managing personal workload to budget and schedule.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to identify discrepancies in engineering data and propose corrective approaches.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to exchange technical information clearly with colleagues and clients.
- Experience providing guidance or task coordination to junior team members.
Preferred:
- Professional registration or active pursuit thereof, holds or is progressing towards relevant technical certification or license.
- Proficiency in LV design and calculation software: Amtech Pro, ETAP, or equivalent.
- Experience with emergency power systems: UPS specification, generator sizing, and ATS coordination.
- Familiarity with ELV power supply interfaces: panel power provisions for fire alarm, security, and ICT systems.
- Experience with Common Data Environment platforms (Forma, or equivalent) and interdisciplinary clash detection workflows.
- Experience with EV charging infrastructure design at building services level.
Responsibilities
- Independently produce primary LV design elements across different stages of the project, including load schedules, distribution board and switchboard layouts, circuit design, and power distribution single-line diagrams.
- Perform LV calculations to established procedures: cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit fault level, protection coordination, and diversity calculations in accordance with applicable national/regional standards.
- Design LV containment systems (cable trays, conduit routes) in coordination with architectural and structural layouts.
- Prepare emergency power design elements: UPS system specifications, generator sizing inputs, ATS/changeover logic, and critical load schedules.
- Contribute to ELV system interfaces within LV projects, including power supply provisions for CCTV, access control, fire alarm panels, and ICT equipment.
- Apply standard procedures and previously developed methods to solve design problems; propose modifications to standard approaches when new problems are encountered, escalating to Principal Engineer where novel solutions require validation.
- Perform a thorough self-check of all work products prior to submitting to senior reviewers, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the applicable design standards and project-specific requirements.
- Carry out technical quality reviews of deliverables produced by entry-level engineers assigned to shared project tasks, documenting review outcomes in the project record in accordance with team QA procedures.
- Prepare project deliverables — including design reports, specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules — to a standard suitable for Principal Engineer review and client issue.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with budget and schedule commitments for assigned design tasks, flagging risks proactively to the project lead.
- Coordinate LV design interfaces with other engineering disciplines through formal interdisciplinary reviews, identifying clashes and resolving routine coordination issues independently.
- Support preparation of LV tender packages: draft technical specifications, equipment schedules, and scope-of-work documents for review by the Principal Engineer.
- Assist with construction-phase activities: site visits, RFI responses, technical query resolution, and review of contractor shop drawings and material submittals under general guidance.
- Manage personal workload across multiple concurrent project assignments within agreed budget and program, reporting progress and risks to the project team lead.
- Produce LV electrical models and documentation in Revit MEP or AutoCAD in compliance with the project BIM Execution Plan and team CAD/BIM standards.
- Participate in clash detection and coordination workflows within the Common Data Environment (ACC, BIM 360, or equivalent), resolving LV containment and device conflicts.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve drawing production efficiency, schedule automation, or parametric modelling within the team’s digital toolset, advocating for adoption of improvements.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, task direction, and technical training to entry-level (Graduate and Engineer I/II) team members working on shared project scopes.
- Proactively identify and advocate for improvements to existing team procedures, design standards, and master specifications; contribute proposed solutions where established precedent may not exist.
- Adjust approach and methods when faced with changing project requirements or new assignments, considering alternative solutions to complete work effectively
