Now, in our third edition, we’re continuing this tradition by bringing you the most promising tech companies to watch in 2025.

JTI Romania

JTI has established a global IT hub in Romania
 
​Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has established a global technology hub in Bucharest, Romania, employing approximately 160 specialists. This center provides comprehensive IT support across JTI's worldwide operations, including 38 factories and eight research and development centers. Services encompass business technology solutions, data analytics, software engineering, cybersecurity, and infrastructure operations. ​
 
Alexander Pitchka, General Manager for JTI Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria, highlighted the significance of this hub as one of JTI's six global technology centers, underscoring the company's commitment to Romania's development. ​
 
In Romania, JTI employs over 1,500 individuals across its Bucharest headquarters, manufacturing facility, the new technology hub, and more than 30 sales offices nationwide. The Romanian branch also oversees operations in Bulgaria and Moldova. ​
 
Globally, JTI operates in over 130 countries, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and a workforce of approximately 46,000 employees.
 
In 2025, JTI received the Top Employer certification in Romania for the 12th consecutive year, following the evaluation of over 20 criteria, including leadership, work conditions, onboarding, talent attraction, development policies, learning, well-being, and remuneration. Stripe

Stripe, an Irish-American fintech valued at $50 million that has globally developed an infrastructure allowing companies to accept payments by card but also via different local platforms, has opened an IT center in Bucharest.

David Singleton, technology director Stripe: “The technology center in Bucharest will be involved in the development of all key components. The plan for 2023: dozens of recruitments. "We are also looking for juniors and people with 5-20 years of experience." Salaries will be "very competitive"

BMW TechWorks Romania

BMW Group, in partnership with NTT DATA Romania, has launched BMW TechWorks Romania, a cutting-edge IT hub in Cluj-Napoca. This new center is set to drive digital transformation in the automotive industry, focusing on software development, cloud computing, AI, and data analytics. With ambitious plans to expand its team, BMW TechWorks Romania is paving the way for the future of mobility through innovation, agility, and technological excellence. Infineon Technologies Romania

Infineon Technologies, a leading German semiconductor manufacturer, is expanding its research and development presence in Romania with the construction of a new state-of-the-art R&D center in Bucharest. This facility is set to become the largest semiconductor R&D hub in Southeast Europe.

Key Highlights:

  • Location and Development: The new R&D center, named One Technology District, is being developed in partnership with One United Properties. Situated in the Barbu Văcărescu - Dimitrie Pompeiu area of Bucharest, the facility will offer a gross leasable area of approximately 20,595 square meters, including 3,000 square meters dedicated to next-generation laboratory space.
  • Project Timeline: Construction commenced in August 2024, with completion expected by mid-2026. Infineon Technologies has committed to a 15-year lease for the facility, representing a total contract value of €57 million.
  • Existing Presence in Romania: Infineon has been operating in Romania since 2005, with an R&D center in Bucharest that has grown to over 400 engineers. In 2022, the company expanded further by opening an additional R&D center in Iași, focusing on semiconductor solutions for the automotive industry.

This expansion underscores Infineon's commitment to strengthening its R&D capabilities in Romania, contributing to advancements in semiconductor technologies for automotive, industrial, and security applications.

While specific hiring numbers for the new R&D center have not been publicly disclosed, Infineon's ongoing recruitment efforts indicate a commitment to significant growth in the region. The company has currently 58 open jobs in Bucharest, Brasov & Iasi, including: Product Engineer, R&D Test Engineer, Quality Manager for Magnetic Sensors, R&D Digitalization Methodology Engineer

Technological Focus:

Infineon's R&D activities in Romania concentrate on developing semiconductor products for automotive, industrial, and digital security applications. The technology stack includes:

  • Embedded Systems: Design and development of microcontrollers and integrated circuits.
  • Software Development: Utilization of programming languages such as C/C++ and Python for firmware and application development.
  • Digital Security: Implementation of cryptographic algorithms and security protocols to protect data and communications.
  • Automotive Technologies: Development of sensors, power electronics, and control systems for automotive applications.

Prysmian


Prysmian Romania, one of the most important cable manufacturers in the country and in Europe, opened an office in Bucharest, in the Mindspace coworking space in Pipera area.

The Bucharest office is an extension of the IT Centre of Excellence in Slatina, where all the factory’s digital processes are managed. The Centre of Excellence is looking for SAP business analysts and IT infrastructure developers which will be able to train the new team to the highest standards. Subsequently, IT Center of Excellence personnel will be able to access various different programmes and opportunities across Prysmian. The total investment in the Prysmian IT Centre of Excellence will total approximately €40 million over a period of 6 years. Of this, €7.5 million is part of state aid from the Romanian state, obtained in 2022.

SITA

SITA EXPANDS GLOBAL TECH CAPABILITIES WITH NEW HUB IN CLUJ TO TRANSFORM AIR TRAVEL

 

SITA, the global leader in air transport technology, has announced the opening of a new technology hub in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, aimed at advancing the future of air travel through cutting-edge innovation. This new hub strengthens SITA’s global network of technology centers and is set to play a critical role in addressing the most pressing challenges facing the aviation industry today—enhancing operational efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and delivering seamless passenger experiences.

 

The Cluj-Napoca hub joins a network of SITA technology hubs in London (United Kingdom), Letterkenny (Ireland), and New Delhi (India), and will focus on developing solutions that transform passenger processing and travel technologies. The hub is instrumental in the creation of next-generation platforms like SITA Flex.
