The company traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison, who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896.

GE and Romania

 

GE celebrated 30 years of common history with Romania, which started back in 1984 as the provider of the turbo-generator units for the significant project Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant. Since then, all GE businesses lines have entered the Romanian market, hence the number of employees exceeds 640 people today.

Currently GE has 6 registered legal entities in Romania.

 

The most important GE infrastructure modernization project with GE technology is the 600-megawatt Fantanele/Cogealac wind park, Europe’s largest onshore wind project, now in full operation and producing enough cleaner energy to power more than one million Romanian households each year. The project utilizes 240 GE 2.5-megawatt wind turbines, including the 1,000th 2.5-megawatt (MW) class machine installed by GE worldwide. Also, GE offers technology for the largest CHP at Petrobrazi and two manufacturing facilities for state of the art technology in aviation and Oil & Gas area.

 

Romania is one of the fastest growing GE locations in Europe. GE invested in Romania, significantly contributing every year to its economy as an investor and a supplier of top technologies and as a good corporate citizen.
