    The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The British Embassy has opened a new round of its internship programme and is looking to recruit for two positions to start in April 2018. The internship will be a 12 months full-time position with 6 months spent in the Political section, and 6 months in the Communications section, by rotation.

    The programme will offer opportunities for personal development such as:

    • Tailored on the job training and individual personal development plan;
    • Mentoring by a British diplomat;
    • Exposure to high-level events;
    • Opportunities to participate in cross-team projects and acquire new skills in areas such as: Strategic Thinking, Communication and Influencing, Collaborating and Partnering.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Drafting reports on political developments and letters as required;
    • Attending and reporting on political conferences and seminars;
    • Support on arranging visits for UK officials to Romania;
    • Translation from English to Romanian and vice versa;
    • Compilation of the daily press review;
    • Updates on the embassy social media channels;
    • Contributions to public events;
    • Maintenance of databases and audio/video equipment.

    The successful candidates should demonstrate:

    • Excellent command of English (indicated by certificates or graduation of an English-speaking academic programme) and Romanian (oral and written);
    • The completion of an undergraduate/bachelor university degree (an essential requirement for the internship). It is desirable that applicants are current Master’s candidates or have recently earned a Master’s degree preferably in Political Science, Journalism, European Affairs, but not exclusive of other degrees;
    • Good drafting, social media, and organisational skills;
    • IT literacy;
    • Flexibility to sometimes work out of office hours and on weekends on exciting projects (compensated by time off in lieu);
    • An interest to develop and seek opportunities by completing tailored training via our Diplomatic Academy;
    • Availability for full-time employment from April 2018 to March 2019.

    This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

    The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

    Monthly salary is 1,900 RON gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.

    All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.
