    Research & Policy Impact Internship – Romania Social and Values-based Conflicts

    Brief Job Description:

    The Department for Peace Operations - PATRIR is looking for a Research and Policy Impact intern who can be based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The position is initially for an unpaid internship with opportunities to develop a funded salary through further project development.

    The intern will be responsible for desk and field research (assisting in interviews and multi-stakeholder workshops) of social value based conflicts in Romania within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) of PATRIR. The final publication will be published nationally and internationally and is intended to be a seminal work in the field. The Peace Researcher (intern) will assist the project researchers in developing a state-of- the-art comprehensive national review of social and values-based conflicts.

    Profile of the Candidate:

    We are looking for highly motivated, dynamic and dedicated individual who has experience in researching conflicts and understands the Romanian context. Fluency in English and Romanian is mandatory.

    Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • Deep analysis of social and values-based conflicts in Romania, including the writing of the final draft due in June 2017
    • Identification and analysis of approaches to addressing these conflicts within Romania
    • Development a database of civic actors active in the country in prevention and intervention to social conflicts.

    In addition, the intern will:

    • Analyze Romanian news and online sources with the scope of finding the source of each conflict, its dynamics, the implicated actors and the current situation in Romania. This analysis will be posted on the team Google Drive folder.
    • Participate in Focus Groups led by the team researchers to be held at the University and other venues.
    • Assist in preparation and transcription of interviews led by the team researchers.
    • Attend weekly meetings with the lead researcher to report progress.

Upon successful completion of the internship the successful candidate will receive certification of their work and tasks performed and, depending upon quality of performance, a letter of recommendation from the Institute and project lead. If the successful candidate wishes, we also encourage those interested in developing long-term paid engagement in the field to apply. This can be possible through the development of projects to provide a fully funded position as a second step following a successful internship.
