    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    - Strong motivation to develop in storage systems engineering in a 24/7 operational environment.
    - Knowledge of block, file and object storage solutions.
    - Openness to learning and growing expertise, alongside great teamwork and communication skills.
    - Focus on reliable IT services by understanding user requirements and responding professionally to service requests.
    - Awareness of system engineering standards.

    Practical work experience with some of the following topics would be advantageous:
    - Data protection (Backup and archive), data security.
    - Linux fundamentals and scripting languages, e.g. Python.
    - Virtualization, containerization, networking and cloud technologies.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    - A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline, e.g. Computer Science, software engineering or other relevant discipline.

    LANGUAGES
    - Candidates must be able to work effectively in English.

As a Junior Data Storage Engineer, within the IT and Data Infrastructures Division (I2D), you will have the opportunity to work on a multi-hundreds-of-petabytes–scale data storage infrastructure, delivering storage, backup, and archival services in support of satellite operations, data services, and corporate IT.

    While working across complex, large-scale environments, you will collaborate with experts to maintain and enhance the services running on the data infrastructure. Whether you are harnessing object storage technology to support a reliable data lake or fine-tuning the storage area network to enable low-latency transactions, you will be at the forefront of delivering mission-critical data storage services to users.

    DUTIES
    - Design, prototype and develop small to medium size storage systems in support of multi-mission elements of the EUMETSAT ground segment;
    - Support maintenance and evolutions of operational systems and services related to data storage;
    - Contribute to requirements engineering, service specifications, architecture and design of storage systems and their technical documentation;
    - Provide support to operations and implementation activities of related storage systems and services and support engineering change proposals, configuration control and quality assurance activities;
    - Support technical interactions with service providers, vendors and industrial partners.

    EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
    The initial contract will be of 2 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
    This post is graded A1 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,912 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
