    Role description

    The vision of Cloud Engineering is to provide the capabilities that enable the Booking.com tech community to build and manage world-leading cloud native applications for the online travel market and unlock Connected Trip.

We will provide a platform and toolset that enables our customers to realize the speed and agility benefits of the AWS platform, providing access to a rich ecosystem of technology services spanning from infrastructure primitives to data and machine learning, to security, quantum computing prototyping, business applications and more.

     

    The Cloud FinOps Engineering team is central to this journey, driving the adoption of cloud in a cost-conscious manner and ensuring teams maximize their use of AWS cloud offerings.


    We are looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Software Engineer to join the Cloud FinOps Engineering team. In this role, you will be involved in developing cloud-based solutions, automating infrastructure, and helping teams optimize their cloud usage. As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer you will contribute also to architectural decisions and mentor the engineers within the team while promoting best practices.

    This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.

    Key Job Responsibilities and Duties 

    • FinOps Apps & Integrations: Build software applications using relevant programming languages, integrating systems, services, and tools to provide cloud spend reporting and optimization opportunities for teams.

    • End-to-End Ownership: Develop cloud-native applications and own services from development to production, monitoring performance, health, and metrics. Maintain, support and develop the services using engineering tools appropriate for the business area such as: GitLab, Harness, CoDeploy, Cloudability, AWS API’s, Artifactory

    • Automation & Tooling: Use technologies like Terraform, AWS CDK, AWS API’s, Gitlab CI to create automated infrastructure solutions that optimize cloud resource usage and encourage cost-efficient practices.

    • Cloud Optimization: Collaborate with teams to help right-size cloud infrastructure, select optimal services, and implement cost-effective cloud designs.

    • Collaboration & Guidance: Partner with development teams across the organization to implement cloud governance best practices and improve application cost efficiency.

    • Mentoring: Lead by example, coaching the engineers within the team and promoting best practices in cloud and FinOps engineering.

    Role Qualifications and Requirements

    • 5+ years of software engineering experience working with at least one major programming language like Java, Golang, Node JS, Typescript. Skilled in deploying applications to the cloud, utilizing tools like GitHub CI, Harness or other CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment.

    • Strong knowledge of software system and cloud design, ideally on AWS.

    • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, AWS CDK) and cloud-native application development.

    • Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, and owning end-to-end systems.

    • Strong communication skills, demonstrated by delivering clear, well-structured, and relevant information tailored to the target audience.

    • Proactive problem solver with critical thinking skills, able to evaluate trade-offs between performance, cost, and technology.
