Big Data Developer

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development and maintenance of new products & features utilizing advanced highly scalable Big data distributed platforms
• Build and enhance sophisticated Analytics and Surveillance algorithms and contribute towards large scale greenfield projects
• Work as part of a Scrum team, contributing to Agile SDLC processes to ensure we meet our business requirements
• Operate collaboratively with other development and QA staff, supported by Development Managers
• Ensure development best practices are followed, and help to improve them
  

Required Skills

• Solid grasp of Java and/or Scala/Spark
• 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience in the industry
• Able to contribute independently and effectively & act as a solid team player towards delivery of high-profile projects
• Strong communication & articulation skills

Additional Skills and Experience

• Some knowledge of, or willingness to learn, technologies such as HDFS, Hive, Impala, HBase and Oozie
• Good understanding of Functional Programming paradigm
• Unit and Integration testing (including mocking)
• Proficient with version-control solutions such as Git or SVN
• Familiarity and experience in using continuous integration tools (Gitlab, Bamboo, Jenkins) and/or deployment (Puppet)
• Experience working in Agile Scrum methodologies
• Build tools (Maven, SBT or Gradle)
• Linux and bash/ruby scripting
• Proficient with SQL
• Understanding of FX financial markets
• Knowledge of Cloudera a plus
• Knowledge on AWS cloud-based development
