Abstract: In the first part of the workshop, Dr. Nicholas Cherouvim, Team Lead, HVDC Control and Protection Department at Siemens Energy will showcase how the ever-evolving HVDC technology is rising to meet the challenge of the transition to renewable energy sources. This will begin with a brief overview of HVDC technology and its application to connect offshore wind energy to the onshore grid. In a further step, Dr. Cherouvim will present how HVDC is already contributing to the stability of the grid today. Finally, there will be an introduction to the emerging grid-forming technology, which is seen as a game-changer for the integration of inverter-based resources into the grid.

In the second part of the workshop, Mr. Marian Costea, Head of Electrical Systems, Control & Protection, Competence Hub Romania, will present the activities of Siemens Energy in Romania. Mr.  Costea will elaborate on the plans for even further developing the regional hub, as a driving force of the sustainable energy future for Europe and the world.
