What we expect from you?
Technical Skills
- Degree in engineering or computer science.
- Knowledge of standard SQL, Pl-SQL (Oracle) and database management systems (DBMS).
- Knowledge of data modeling and related best practices.
- Oracle Database Certification (OCA, OCP) is a nice-to-have.
- Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and DB2 are a plus.
- Knowledge of UNIX operating systems (preferred: Linux), security concepts and cryptography would be distinctive.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
Communication Skills
- Ability to interpret and discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people.
- Ability to regularly provide advice and recommend actions in relationship to rather complex issues, involving problem resolution based on established practices.
- Ability to provide occasional technical guidance, mostly related to database administration tasks.
- Ability to act as a technical interface between Application Teams and Infrastructure providers, in the context of database services and appliances.
- English fluent, written and verbal.
Work Timeframe:
- Usual work timeframe is 9am to 6pm. Responsibilities may require, in exceptional cases:
• coverage of extended timeframes, such as 8am - 8pm, in shift with other Team members
• on-call availability during weekends in case of major interventions such as application releases and high-risk infrastructure changes.
- No regular travelling required.
What will you be doing in this role?
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a set of databases. The DBA is also involved in the planning and development of the database and/or data models, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users, operators and software developers.
The DBA ensures that databases comply with the following requirements:
• consistency of data across the database(s)
• clear definition of the data model, to ensure efficiency and performance
• control over recoverability of data in case of emergency, or upon Operations request.
Such activities include:
• supporting user access to databases following the internal rules and policies
• monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to users and applications
• tuning of SQL queries to improve resource consumptions and/or minimize execution timing
• mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database
• refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
• testing new versions of a Database Management System (DBMS) and supporting Application Teams upon database migration, upgrade, and patching
• checking practices and procedures with respect to Company's internal standards about data management and maintenance
• writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for metadata
• ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
• supporting and providing technical information to perform capacity planning
• working closely with software developers and testers
• communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure data integrity and usability
• supporting developers with scripting and code optimization.
