    About the role

    The Senior Software Engineer (Java) will be responsible for the analysis, definition, design, implementation, testing, installation, modification, and maintenance of properly engineered information systems, containing software as the major component, to meet agreed business needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Writes new software, makes modifications to existing software, or integrates software applications and modules in accordance with agreed upon specifications, created in partnership with others
    • Creates and executes unit testing and integration testing ensuring software meets requirements
    • Contributes to the creation of design. May lead the design of complex components.
    • Provide technical support to operations or other development teams
    • Creates, reviews, and maintains all required technical documentation/ manual related to assigned software to ensure supportability and reuse
    • Reviews work of peers and junior developers
    • Provides wider feedback into performance
    • Assists in identification and implementation of short-term and long-term solution options, including risk assessments
    • Assists with improvements to prevent problems, including problem resolution workflow. Participates in remediation solutions
    • Participates in project planning sessions with team members to analyse development requirements, provide design options, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work
    • Provides work breakdown and estimates for small software development tasks
    • Provides timely status updates for areas of individual responsibilities within projects to supervisor
    • Actively participates in team and status meetings
    • Demonstrates software as requested Develops software using disciplined software development processes, adhering to team/company standards and software best practice guidelines, and corporate policies

    • Leads routine projects with manageable risks and resource requirements
    • Provides input to department objectives and goals of a sub-Business Unit or function
    • May manage budgets for small projects or programs
    • Advises middle management on functional matters, or on interpretation of policies and practices
    • May train or mentor professional colleagues


    Strategic Planning and Decision Making

    • Makes recommendations that may shape operational strategy
    • Determines the nature of complex or undefined problems; independently identifies the best solution from many alternatives
    • Escalates higher risk or more unique problems
    • Decisions require interpretive thinking and some judgment in developing solutions


    Experience and skills

    Required:

    • Experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of technical discipline or specialism
    • Provides subject matter expertise across sub-units
    • Strong understanding of other roles within the function or Business Unit and how they are connected
    • Knowledge of relationships between all relevant groups within the company
    • Adapts traditional approaches to solutions and applies in different circumstances
    • Experience in an agile environment
    • Experience with Core Java (multi-threading, profiling, performance optimization, etc.), cloud technologies (preferably AWS), container services, software management and deployment tools, designing and implementing services that are scalable, resilient, etc., knowledge of secure practices
    • Technologies: Docker services, Microservices, REST, Spring / SpringBoot, Jenkins


    Nice to have:

    • AWS ElastiCache, ECS / EC2, Fargate, S3, CloudWatch, Terraform, CloudFormation, GitLab, Git runner etc.
