    Platform Engineering Manager


    UnaVista is the London Stock Exchange's matching, reconciliation and data integration service, our customers being tier 1 investment banks, hedge funds, brokers and other financial institutions. All instances of UnaVista are hosted by the Exchange. It is a 'rich internet application', written in Java with a SQL Server back end, and pure HTML/Javascript front end.


    Due to continued organic growth, we are looking for a Development Manager with Azure expertise, for the Platform Engineering Team to maintain and enhance the UnaVista platform, in accordance with the requirements specified by the Product Management, Product Solutions and Professional Services teams.     As a Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing key stakeholders, the workload of the development team and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule to agreed scope. Mentoring and developing the team and driving a conscious process improvement will also be part of your day-to-day activities.


    As a Development Manager, you will:

    • Line manage other developers in the team (back-end and front-end) and carry out tasks like assigning work, providing feedback, performance evaluation;

    • Work with UnaVista Cloud Engineering team to ensure robust and high velocity delivery of products across environments;

    • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of future PaaS service applications within the cloud migration program

    • Manage the UnaVista Platform releases (scheduling change requests, managing release cycles, liaising with stakeholders and setting delivery timelines and expectations);

    • Carry out software development tasks in accordance with the application lifecycle management process;

    • Assist with in-life maintenance, testing, debugging and documentation of deployed services;

    • Support the development team, QA, customer support, solutions & professional services teams as required;

    • Assist with projects connected to the Exchange data centre where UnaVista is hosted;

    • Ensure that all work is in accordance with the defined application development lifecycle process.

    Key behaviours and skills:

    • Deep technical knowledge of Java (including multi-threading), T-SQL(preferably on MS SQL Server), Javascript (including knowledge of frameworks e.g. ExtJS /Sencha /JQuery), AJAX, DHTML, Jetty, Apache (all on Windows platforms);

    • Experience in architecting and designing technical solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure platform;

    • Familiarity with tools relevant to the above - e.g. hands on use of systems for requirements gathering and bug tracking, documentation tools, CRM systems;

    • Strong understanding of end-to-end software development lifecycle and software architecture principles;

    • Experience in scaling large volume systems e.g. Big Data/"NewSQL" databases deployed on private/public clouds is considered an advantage;

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

    • Experience in solution delivery using Agile methodologies;

    • Knowledge of software architecture;

    • People management experience.
