    There is a difference between managing and leading; the former is about making sure the coffee machine is fully serviced, timesheets are on time but the latter is about getting people to achieve more than they thought was possible of themselves. Add into the mix the leading of smart, opinionated, competitive & emotional problem solvers and you have your hands full. There's some science, but the best way to learn is from those that have come before you and have the scars to prove it.
    These are a few insights into what I have learned along the way and what I think it takes to be an effective DevLead.

    Started career with a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering working on military applications for Navies around the world, from steering controls to making sure the toilets flushed properly! Moved into Software Engineering and then into business systems for Legal Discovery, Television & Radio archives/scheduling back to my roots in IoT for Data Centres and now delivering innovation in cloud based Contact Centres at 8x8. The landscape has changed but the story remains the same - "Go fast, then go alone. Go far, then go together".
