Head of Engineering for SMB Product Romania team in Hosting

About the team

1&1 SMB Product Romania's mission is to make having an online presence accessible for any busy SMB owner, by building an ecosystem of do-it-yourself services, spanning from website builder to online marketing, that our customers can use to be successful online. As an Engineering Manager in the SMB Product Romania your primary responsibility is to the team and people you support, ensuring a healthy and sustainable engineering culture through strong leadership skills and a solid technical background. You will have the opportunity to influence culture, facilitate technical delivery and work with your team and leadership to shape up strategy and execution.

Main responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a team of highly skilled Node.js and DevOPS Engineers;
• Conduct performance appraisals and development plans;
• Hire, coach, mentor and help your team grow and evolve;
• Supervise technical work, participate in code reviews, guide and mentor engineers;
• Drive delivery of technical solutions to address business needs;
• Cultivate a healthy engineering culture, in-line with the company cultural values;
• Promote and implement Agile practices within the team;
• Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization;
• Influence business and product roadmap to align them to the team’s needs and vice-versa;
• Deep dive into technical issues with a problem-solving mindset;
• Implement and drive operational processes (E.g.: Live Bugs, OnCall, etc.);
• Actively get involved in security topics;
• Monitor the live product’s metrics and act quickly in case of defects;
• Act as the first point of contact for project and technical related topics;
• Secure realistic release plans and be involved in roadmap definition;
• You’ll be located in our Bucharest office, and will occasionally travel to the company’s offices in Germany;

• Solid experience working in an Agile development environment;

• Great communication skills;
• You’re able to bring your thoughts across in a simple way, understandable for different audiences (Engineering, Design, Commercial Management, etc.);
• You’re able to keep a clear head in stressful and conflictual situations;

• Experience working with Spotify’s Squad Model
• Experience with Node.js and Typescript is a plus
• Experience with GraphQL is a plus
• Experience building Mobile-optimized/Mobile-first Web-Apps is a plus
• Experience building PWA or AMP websites is a plus
• Experience with Wordpress development is a plus (Wordpress REST APIs, Plugin Development, Gutenberg Blocks)
