    The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
    Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit;
    Experience managing mixed aged groups of young people;
    Proven excellence in written and oral communication skills;
    A master of observation of learning groups;
    Internet savvy and familiar with online and blended learning;
    A deep curiosity about life and love of lifelong learning;
    Deep respect for all children and empathy for the challenges they face in their lives while trusting their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention;
    English language while not necessary in daily guiding (at the beginning) is essential for a truly bilingual RO-EN learning environment, where systems and resources are to be adapted.

    Any of these will be very helpful but not required:
    ● Montessori method training or Waldorf school experience;
    ● Experience with project-based and/or experiential learning;
    ● A degree in education is not necessary. If you ever participated in launching a business or not-for-profit organization or led a major project, these are also suitable qualifications.


    The Educator/Guide will work together with the school Founders to:
    Affirm students, holding them accountable to their promises and to deliver the best work they can do as they discover and pursue a calling to influence the world;
    Act as a role model as an independent learner on a personal Hero’s Journey;
    Launch and lead Socratic discussions;
    Guide Quests (Acton projects), including daily challenges and curating world-class examples;
    Set up the Studio as inspiration for learning;
    Observe and track each child’s progress; encourage young learners to track their own progress and create portfolios to show parents and what they can do;
    Create meaningful exhibitions, ceremonies, and celebrations that reinforce the rules of engagement;
    Uphold promises to students, parents and school Founders made in relational agreements to provide and strengthen a safe learning community;
    Prepare the ground to pass along these responsibilities to the children so as to allow them to lead themselves;
    Thoughtfully observe children individually and the group as a whole to help inspire them along their journey. A willingness to be more of an observer than a doer is essential;
    Embody a growth mindset and incorporate it into all aspects of the program including the Guide’s own personal development.

    ALTUS 21: An Acton Academy is a private, non-traditional school with innovative elements such as adaptive educational software, quest-like projects with real-world application, Socratic discussions, apprenticeships, and the Hero’s Journey as a compelling, binding framework in a learner-driven, multi-age Studio (5-7 yo).
    The Guide’s main role is to move learners on a journey to understand and develop their most precious gifts, discover their deepest passions, and explore how to use these passions to serve others in a meaningful way that brings them joy, more like a coach. The Guide’s role is NOT a “lecturing” role and expert “human library” ego is to be removed. We believe our learners will find a calling and change the world in a profound way.

    This is a position for an inspired and independent learner who can work within the framework of the Acton model; someone who likes to collaborate, experiment, evaluate and continually improve; someone who has a deep respect for all children believing that each human has genius within; and someone who is a flexible problem-solver. In order to adapt to the Acton model attitude and enthusiasm will be more appreciated than a traditional teaching background!
