As a Junior Data Pipeline Engineer you will take responsibility in making sure that data flows from the various source systems in ING to the Data Analytics Platform. This includes having data hop over several systems and will include multiple tech stacks tow work with.

You will work with the larger organization, engage tech teams and stakeholders across many countries with regards to data and be part of a small team of developers and business analysts.

Do you recognize yourself in this profile:

Skills in a programing language, a bonus is Airflow experience
Skills in Linux
Familiar with ETL Processes
Familiar with a versioning tool (GIT for e.g.) will be a plus
Experience with SQL
You are comfortable working in an international context, within virtual teams and can interact easily with international stakeholders;
Passionate about Data Analytics and eager to learn
You are “MVP” (Minimal Valuable Product) driven, making continuous impact in a complex environment.

A day in the life of a Junior Data Pipeline Engineer

As a Junior Data Pipeline Engineer, you’re building the data roads that lead to the Data Analytics Platform, this is needed so that ING can combine all the data it has at its disposal into one powerful asset on which analytics can be performed. How will you create the pipelines that are the vital fuel needed for data scientists and data engineers to be successful at their work? The entire company is looking at you for the ways in which it can become truly data led…

That’s why you wake up to go to work. After your morning coffee you attend the daily standup with your team of experts where you update each other on the amazing things you’ve been able to do yesterday and say what important things you’ll accomplish today. After that you head to a meeting with the Product Owner and to see which are next features that are prioritized for the upcoming sprints, and start deep diving into the functionalities that the team needs to develop. You now identify the data sources that are involved and the fun begins. You start with Dutch Payment Transactions. Is the data available in the Data Lake ? Perfect ! You can build the first part of the pipeline that transfers this massive amount of data to the staging are of the Data Analytics Platform. After lunch you sit down with the business analyst to think about what the best strategy will be to combine this dataset with the one that you worked on last week.. The rest of your afternoon you spend by putting together all that is needed and how to achieve that so that we have the Dutch Payment Transactions available on the platform. You keep being amazed by the excellent people around you…
