Must-have skills: (several years of experience)

• Visual Basic (Excel VBA macros) development.

Other desirable skills:
• Experience with automatically scheduled data flows and refreshes across databases (for example, from SAP or from Saleforce to MySQL, and viceversa).
• Good understanding of ETL (edit-transform-load) approaches in Power BI, to choose the most effective compromise between database data structure flexibility on one side, and ETL data reorganization on the other.

Senior Database Manager / PHP Developer

Job Description:
Senior technical leader, with full technical ownership for the maintenance AND evolution of an important, high-availability SQL database (a few dozens of relational tables, a few tens of millions of data lines, and currently based on WAMP architecture).

Content and focus of the job:
The person in this role will be responsible for the integrity, the accessibility (business-critical high-availability), the flexibility (ease of evolution), and the future-proofness, of the data and data structures contained in this database. The capability to quickly modify the data and the data structures based on rapidly evolving business needs is key.

The MySQL database which is central to this job contains detailed quantitative business data (typically financial records, both actuals, and projections). It is write-accessed only by a few tens of people (and, in parallel, by several important automated processes, frequently uploading large amounts of data). Since the number of concurrent write-access users can be counted in dozens (not in thousands), there is no heavy requirement from the perspective of concurrent multi-user transactional aspects. In other words: this is not a massively-transactional database (like booking.com or amazon.com) write-accessed by thousands of operators across the globe.

However, on the other hand, there are several "complex" technical requirements in the maintenance and evolution of this database. In particular:
• Constant data restatements, and consequent evolution/revision of the underlying data structure and tables structure (so, for this data maintenance aspect, this position is SQL-skills intensive).
• Frequent management via web interfaces (so, for this database management aspect, need for in-depth PHP competence).
• Interaction and connection with other databases (so, for this interaction aspect, ability to run SQL queries from the MySQL database to other databases, via gateways or not, and the ability for the MySQL database to be queried/accessed by other databases, via ODBC or via other methods).
• Interface with Excel-based and PowerBI-based files (and in the case of the Excel-based files, there is an important set of automation via Excel macros maintained by the person in this role, therefore there is a need for in-depth VBA competence).
• Capability to configure this database both on physical servers and on virtual machines (today we're mostly running on paired/synched physical servers, but we are gradually moving to hosted virtual machines, still WAMP for the moment - but WAMP is not a hard requirement).
