Gynaecologists and Obstetricians

Currently we are urgently looking for specialists in gynaecology and obstetrics, since many projects focus on medical support of women.

As an OB/GYN on mission with Médecins Sans Frontières, you will implement gynecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks. Our medical teams provide antenatal care, assist in deliveries, provide prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, carry out post-rape care for survivors of sexual violence, and perform surgical intervention for women with vaginal fistula. This will be done in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.

On mission, your clinical skills and resourcefulness will be put to the test and improvisation skills are key when you are confronted with uncommon diseases or don't have the usual technical equipment available. Together with a team of midwives you will be managing obstetric and emergency cases, the maternity as well as the delivery room. Your responsibility will also include supervising and training of local staff. In respect of the various cultural aspects in many countries where we work, we are especially looking to recruit female gynaecologists.
 

Special requirements:

• Completed medical specialist training and 2 years experience
• Ideally a very versatile professional experience – including obstetric surgery
• Training or experience in tropical medicine is an asset
• Minimum of 8 weeks availability for a mission
• Fluent English and/or French
