We aim to initially employ a team of 200 professionals in Romania across a range of technology data services and corporate function roles Our career opportunities cover a number of areas:

    Web services - software development, system administration, maintenance and operational support for LSEG web platforms (both Linux and Windows platforms);
    Corporate Services - corporate system administration and corporate application support for platforms based on Windows, Citrix and Red HAT;
    Market Services which includes application support, system administration and database services engineering for LSEG markets;
    Post Trade Services which includes software development and DevOps.


    We are looking for a Senior Sybase Engineer to join the London Stock Exchange team in Bucharest. In this role you would provide production and development support for all LSEG Sybase databases. This includes designing database systems in accordance with industry best practices and ensuring these systems are maintained to these standards.

    Other responsibilities include designing, documenting the strategies for backup and recovery, performance analysis, data management and user and developer assistance, and also being a point of escalation for first line support.

    Candidate Profile/ Key Skills:

    •Experience in supporting business critical applications and servers in a multi data centre/ multisite environment;
    •Extensive experience in Sybase ASE 15.0.3 – 16.0 and IQ 15.3 – 16.1 database administration; replication and replication servers; Asemon; White Sands;
    •Experience with Oracle Databases (10G – 12C) or SQL Server (2008 – 1016) is nice-to-have;
    •Shell Scripting, Perl or ISQL experience is desirable;
    •Experience of working in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage;
    •Graduate Degree in Information Technology / Maths / Physics / Statistics / Engineering or an equivalent working experience;
    •Excellent verbal and written skills;
    •Excellent problem solving skills and pragmatic approach;
    •A proactive attitude;
    •The ability to liaise with different levels of staff within the organisation;
    •Good team player, must be motivated to progress in the role and willing to share experience/ knowledge;
    •Self starter with the ability to plan and manage work according to deadlines.


    Key responsibilities for this role are:

    •Develop and maintain database build standards including security to industry standards, patching and high availability;
    •Monitor and manage database resources to ensure optimum performance;
    •Document and manage database server procedures such as backup and restore, upgrades and disaster recovery procedures;
    •Undertake maintenance and upgrades, generally out of normal business hours including weekends;
    •Provide database design support to development projects;
    •Performance tuning and diagnostics;
    •Review database application code and advise accordingly;
    •Assist Windows administrators as necessary to support applications that use the databases;
    •Develop and maintain a strategy for database management to include both manual procedures/spot checks and automated alerts;
    •Assist IT Security in maintaining an appropriate database security policy. Evaluate and implement applications to ‘police’ adherence to policy.
