    WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

    The VAT Associate is responsible for performing a diverse set of work activities included in the end-to-end Record to Report (RTR) process. In support of Kellogg’s Global Business Services strategic objectives, the VAT Associate:
    Manage the timely and accurate calculation and submission of VAT, Intrastat, EC Sales Listings and other regulatory reporting submissions for Europe
    Ensure timely payment and recovery of VAT balances
    Interact with and provide VAT support for the relevant local markets/direct tax teams
    Reports to: KEU GBS VAT Lead
    Supervises: N/A
    Internal peer relationships:
    Primary relationship is with the Local Business to ensure that VAT is correctly accounted for and reported correctly
    Liaise with other team in the Regional Service Centre and Local Markets regarding VAT audits/specific issues.
    Liaise with other Kellogg teams including ,Tax & Treasury, Controls and Legal
    External relationships:
    Build & maintain relationships with BPO
    Build & maintain relationships with European tax authorities
    Build & maintain relationships with European tax and advisors, third party providers and auditors
    This role is part of a team responsible for managing 46 VAT registrations across 18 European countries. This role has significant impact on European Cash Flow. The VAT team manages VAT payable and recoverable balances of approximately €65m per annum
    Staff size & operating budget: N/A
    Mitigate risk by performing an in-depth review of all returns prepared by BPO. Escalate and remediate material variances between VAT, Intrastat and EC sales declarations.
    Avoid fines and penalties by initiating timely payments of VAT and Duty liabilities
    Work with local auditors and fiscal authorities to ensure all regulatory reporting queries are answered in a timely manner.
    Identify, prioritize, escalate and resolve all issues surrounding VAT.
    Prevent misstatement of VAT balances by performing timely reviews of balance sheet reconciliations. Ensure account reconciliations are aligned with best practice guidelines.
    Maintain up to date with tax rate changes for designated markets.
    Build relationships with the European Tax authorities
    Provide excellent customer service to key parties – both internal and external. Attend when necessary monthly SLA calls if any VAT related issues are raised. All issues resolved by due date.
    Interact with and provide VAT support for the relevant local markets and Tax teams
    Provide cash flow forecasting/budgeting support as required.
    Ensure the execution of tasks aligned with SOX controls.
    Initiate and support the implementation of process improvements and ad hoc VAT projects as directed by line manager.
    Support implementation of improvements for process efficiency, quality and KPIs
    Complete other responsibilities as assigned by GBS Leadership

    Responsibilities

    WHAT DO I NEED TO DEMONSTRATE?

    Apart from a hunger to learn and succeed in the role, to be considered for this position you must be able to meet the following requirements:

    Required:
    High School Diploma or equivalent in Economics field
    Experience of regulatory reporting, preferably in various European legislations
    Fluent in English plus at least one of the following: Spanish, Italian, French, or German
    Strong understanding of accounting principles and US GAAP
    Ability to work with tight deadlines, attention to details and strong organizational skills.
    Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel – Required; Experience with Word, PowerPoint, and Access - Preferred
    Strong communicator – able to participate in meetings, challenge current practice, raise and discuss issues with clarity
    Preferred:
    University Degree or equivalent
    Experience working in a shared services, process driven or service center environment
    Expertise in Record to Report function including best practices, technologies, processes, procedures and tools
    Training and certification in Six Sigma or LEAN
    Experience working for a multinational organization and working with colleagues internationally
    SAP ERP knowledge
