    Job Description

Amazon has a culture of data-driven decision-making and demands business intelligence that is timely, accurate, and actionable. The Client-Side Metrics team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer Intern who is passionate about data analysis, uncovering customer behavior patterns from the data. We are looking for a talented analyst who can help turn billions of rows of real world interaction data into business insights and build models to predict and quantify the impact of various events and metrics over customer behavior. You will help us answer questions like “How does a millisecond of waiting time affect behavior?”, “Which is the best placement on a page for content?”, “What are the customer profiles that are engaging the most?” etc.

Client-Side Metrics is a tool for customer obsession. We are Amazon's Real User Monitoring platform responsible for automatic measurements of customer experience. We enable web and mobile application owners to measure performance of experiments, detect, diagnose and eliminate customer experience regressions. Our usability metrics (page load times, mouse movements, swipes, funnels, errors etc.) lead to data-driven design decisions to make Amazon applications faster and easier to use for millions of customers.

As a BIE you will be working in one of the world's largest and most complex data warehouse environments. You should be passionate about working with huge data sets, and be someone who brings datasets together to answer business questions. As an intern you will be part of the team, sharing the everyday software development and research process. You will work under the direct coaching of a dedicated mentor on data analysis and will have support from the engineering team on surfacing the data you need. You will interact with partner teams to better understand your requirements and receive iterative feedback on your results.

You will implement data analytics using cutting edge analytics patterns and technologies that are inclusive of but not limited to Hadoop, Redshift and other in-house data analysis solutions. You will extract huge volumes of data from various sources and message streams and construct complex analyses. You will write scalable queries and tune performance on queries running over billions of rows of data.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Probability and statistics: Candidate should know probability, conditional expectation, common statistics, exploratory data analysis, linear regression, hypothesis testing.
    • Experience working with a wide range of predictive and decision models and data mining techniques, as well as tools for developing such models
